I just spend about 200€ on art study books

Fri May 15, 2009, 9:28 AM
Yes. Would anyone believe me if I said I never owned any real art-lesson book, reference guide, tutorial book or the like? Probably not, but it's true - all I have is a couple of booklets my dad had, a waaaaay old distance learning course in 12 lessons, that covered some of the basics, but I never really read those completely. I should catch up on that. And I never couldn't really be assed to read online tutorials (I hate reading longer texts on screen, and I hate printing out stuff, too. I'm just that lazy.)
Also, having no formal education as an artist and being entirely selftaught, after a phase of utter resignation, I decided it's finally time to get serious and put together a library full of reference material, guidance, and instructions to improve of what I have taught myself purely, based mostly on looking at various artists' works, random advice from friends and fellow artists, and pure brooding and thinking about the topic.

It's silly, isn't it? I really don't know why I haven't thought of it before. Maybe pride, maybe just being stupid and blind, or whatever. I DID think "Well, I should get this or that", but I never really did, rather spending money on stuff.
So, now I'm awaiting a HUGE box of books ordered via amazon. Poor delivery man. I can feel your pain already.
I'm prone to random decisions like that. And, well, 200€ is not that bad.

Anyway, I guess this is a life sign for those who kept asking me when I will finally upload new stuff. I guess it will be soon. I haven't given up, for sure. It is merely the beginning. (Talk about being dramatic, eh?)

If some of you feel like giving hints to which books have helped you or which you consider worth getting, feel free to enlighten me. I sure should listen to suggestions.
My main shopping focus to boot has been on comic and figure drawing material, plus some random picks of interests on fantasy art and scenery (primarily digital), but really, my interests almost cover anything. So even while I may not actually practice everything, it might sure be a good idea to at least get some idea on various art topics in theory.

My thanks goes to the people who kept supporting me and uphoalding interest and faith in my art and me as an aspiring artist. I really should stop letting you down and finally get things kicking.
Cheers.

Hey Draze! Comme ci, comme ca, so-so, I would say, about how the years have been treating me. Last two years have been kind of an "extended errant in the wrong direction", one might say, but I suppose I'm back on track and finally starting to get the hang of some things I've been neglecting way too much in the past - like finally trying to get my businessman-know-how up on par and stuff. I guess, things are looking up, all in all. How's your life?
